Durango offers a wide range of business payment solutions for merchants of all sizes. They specialize in high-risk, as well as international businesses, while offering exceptional customer support. Their prices and fees vary depending on your specific business.
Located in Durango, Colorado, Durango Merchant Services has been around since 1999. They specialize in high-risk businesses, and are surprisingly a great company to work with. You can see this in their BBB rating of A+, and no complaints to be found. However, it was easy to find a good amount of positive reviews. This means a lot. Since I've been researching merchant service companies, it seems like negative reviews usually out number the positive ones. So their customers must be pretty happy with their service if they took the time to write a positive review. In case you're wondering what constitutes a high-risk business, here's a modified list of those businesses that may have trouble finding traditional credit card processing services:
Although their specialty is high-risk businesses, Durango offers a variety of other services, including all types of merchant accounts, hosted gateways, eCheck processing, equipment sales, and fraud protection services. They are extremely fast with getting accounts set up and make it easy for you to work with them due to their excellent customer support.
Below is a detailed review of Durango Merchant Services offering. The review is broken down into the following categories.

Almost every merchant account services company uses either Interchange Plus or Tiered Pricing (to learn the differences read here). Where companies allow us to disclose pricing information, we show the deals that our secret shoppers were able to achieve. When companies offer both Interchange Plus and Tiered Pricing, we try to get a quote on both options.
Durango, like most high-risk providers, looks closely at your individual business before providing a price quote. So you won't find any pricing information on their website. Thats because in the high-risk industry, small changes in the business category that your company operates in, can affect prices wildly.
Of course, the more risk your business has, the higher your rates and termination fee will be. My guess is that their rates must be fair since there are no complaints about them, but as with all high-risk providers, it's best to get 2-3 quotes and compare them.
As I said above, Durango does not disclose any information about their rates and fees. According to their website, they have no hidden fees, no annual fees, free shopping cart integration, and flexible contract terms.
While your transactions usually take place electronically, the actual device that you use to swipe a customer's card is referred to as "the equipment." This equipment includes hardware and, often, software or apps for that hardware to function properly.
HARDWARE
Instead of renting (which we discourage), Durango sells a variety of equipment options to support your needs. While the equipment offered is not attractive or flashy, they are functional and user friendly.
SOFTWARE
Durango Merchant Services can handle payments from and for merchants in the United States, Canada and abroad.
I generally don't like long-term contracts or termination fees in merchant services agreements, because the ability to cancel keeps the credit card processor on its best behavior, including the willingness to make you happy if there's a dispute. Plus, this ability to cancel gives you the ability to move on if you find a better deal.
Just like the rates and fees, contract length and termination fees depend on your specific business. You can, however, expect 2-3 year contracts with an early termination fee.
The merchant account services industry is multi-layered. Understanding how those layers fit together can be confusing (Read More in this Article). A good thing to know, however, is whether or not your company is a direct processor (good if yes) or, if not, then to know who they process with and whether or not that processor is reliable. The second thing to know is whether or not the service or sales staffs are in-house or outsourced. In-house staffs are preferable for you, as these staff members may have more access to sources that can resolve your issues.
Processor: Durango Merchant Services LLC is a registered ISO of BMO Harris Bank NA. They also maintain their own gateway that is similar to Authorize.Net. However, be aware that the bank that acquires your account may not use the Durango gateway. With that said, there's no middleman here, which is always a good thing. Durango takes care of everything here from start to finish.
Account Sales: Durango has their own sales department, which is good because this usually means the sales team will be more knowledgeable and able to help you better. Since we couldn't find any complaints about their sales team, I'd say that could only mean they do a good job. According to their website, each sales manager has an average of 10 years experience in merchant services
Account Service: Durango offers customer support by phone Monday - Friday from 8:30 to 5pm MST. Each account is assigned a "dedicated account manager" for the life of the account. This is great because you can have a good relationship with your rep and they will know everything about your account from the get go. This gets rid of any confusion when you're trying to get help with your account.
As part of our review process, we try to test merchant account service companies' claims by placing test calls and working through the customer service process.

Call to Customer Support
When I called I encountered a short phone tree, and punched "1" for support. A receptionist answered and patched me through to an account representation named Nathan within a minute. Nathan sounded young, but he had answers to all the questions I had about Durango's services.
Our Take: We're not surprised that the support service was on the ball, after everything we read about this company. Thumbs up all around.
We scour the web to find past / current customers' comments / complaints about each merchant services processor. Then, we investigate those complaints that seem legit, and give our verdict on how well the credit card processor handled the issues.
Like I said, there are no complaints on BBB.org for Durango. The only ones I found were on different sites, written by people who were upset that Durango did not accept their application. Even to these applications, a rep from Durango took the time to respond and asked them to contact them directly to see if they can resolve the issue. I also read that if your application is denied, a rep from Durango contacts you to explain why. I'd say this is as good as it gets. Not only do they have zero complaints on BBB, it was hard for me to find complaints anywhere about Durango.

About the Reviews: These reviews, and for that matter any reviews, are inherently subjective, and should be regarded as our opinion, not as a statement of fact. Selecting a merchant services provider is an important decision, and we urge you to use no single source of information as the basis of that decision.
About the Pricing: This pricing is an estimate based on limited available information. In some cases, the Processors' pricing information was provided directly by the company, in others, we obtained it from public information, through calls to the company, or through past or current clients of the company. Where, despite these efforts, we were unable to obtain any information about certain fees, we used estimates based on similar providers in the industry. While we're working, in some cases, with the company directly to get more accurate pricing, even in those circumstances, we can't guarantee the pricing's accuracy. Complicating all of this, is that for some companies individual salespeople are given authority to modify terms on a deal by deal basis. In any case, if you know of an error, please let us know and we'll fix it.
About the Calculations: With respect to your estimated savings, this is based on a lot of factors and some hard math. The reason we do it, along with the "Actual Gross Rate" calculation is that every Processor prices their product differently (e.g. interchange v. 3 tier v. 4 tier v. flat v. membership, etc.) and some make it intentionally complicated or opaque. Trying to convert their pricing structure to a consistent "Overall Cost of Processing" is the only way you, the merchant, can do an apples to apples pricing comparison and know whether an offer is actually a good deal. Our system isn't perfect but we're trying.
Conclusion: In sum, these rankings, ratings, and scores are inherently subjective, and should be regarded as our opinion and not as a legal statement of fact. Moreover, use these prices and estimates at your own risk, and make sure to verify the pricing you see here in any formal contract you receive. Finally, if you do find something wrong in our pricing, terms, etc., tell us and we'll try to fix it.
